- 2016-08-22My 9m baby is still not holding on toys with 2 hands and even with one hand he is unable to hold toys bigger than his palms. But no issues with those small toys like rattles, spectacles etc that are easy to grab. He does hold milk bottle with both hands during feeds but other than that he refuses to hold the bottle. Do u think I need to be concerned ? As for other milestones, he can roll and sit well and stand leaning on sofa for support but not yet crawl. Character wise he is very laid back

- 2016-08-22I need help with a question not related to parenthood, wonder if anyone can help me.
My spouse and I have a property loan for 5 years and that time we were both working. Now 5 years later, only 1 of us is working and so our combined income has drastically dropped. We are now thinking of refinancing or repricing our loan to get lower interest rates. We tried applying for refinancing with a different bank before and it did not go through due to our low income. Here are my questions:
1. If we apply to reprice with our current bank, will the bank check on our current salaries?
2. If the current bank checks our salaries and finds out that our income now is a lot lower than 5 years ago, will they go to the extent of recalling our loan?
Most grateful for any advice. I dare not ask my current bank these questions in case they work against me.
- 2016-08-22My gynae told me tht likely I would require a c sect when I give birth though natural is also still possible for now but may b tough on me given my small size and age.

scream or more of burning feeling etc
can I still nurse my bb..breastfeed right aft op as movements r restricted? Do share ur c sect experience.tks!

My son is 3 years old. As all three year old he is mischievous and curious, many whys, what's, etc.
My hb have no patience to entertain him.
He will ignore and shout loudly to ask him to dun disturb him. Basically give him a black face.
I tried talking to him. He just brushed it aside and start quarrel with me. Say he very bz with work, his hp nv left his hands.
Me on the other end. My work can nv be finish. I'm a shm btw.
He nv reali helps with hse work and will only move when I ask him to, or when he notice my face change to black.
If I tell him all these we will end up quarreling.
I just hope he will have more patience towards the kids as he complained they are not close to him.

- 2016-08-23Is it true that drinking alcoholic beverages like DOM or eating dishes cooked with alcohol will is thought to boost blood circulation and warm up the body?
- 2016-08-23How true is it that contact with water or washing hair will cause wind in the body and lead to headache and rheumatism later in life?
Does using herbs in my water help with regards to this?
- 2016-08-23Must I consume a lot of herbal supplement in confinement? I read that childbirth drains woman's qi, so she should stock up on specific herbal supplement, soups and dishes to boost energy and blood.
- 2016-08-23In TCM practice, It is believed that you cannot read or cry or use handphone in the dark room during confinement, as childbirth is thought to weaken the liver, and the liver is associated with blood, which is associated with the eyes. So you must avoid stress to the eye otherwise it will cause 青光眼 (glaucoma)
Instead you must consume more wolfberry to strengthen the eye as wolfberry strengthen the liver.
Is there truth to these 3 questions? Namely is liver connected to the eye? Does reading, crying, using handphone weaken the eye? and does wolfberry help protect the eyes?
- 2016-08-23In confinement we are told to wear long sleeve clothes, and not sit in aircon room or have the fan switched on. as the cool air will cause wind and cause problems later on. Is this true?

- 2016-08-23I was told to avoid ginger if I’m breastfeeding my baby for fear of jaundice, but confinement food has ginger. What should I do?
- 2016-08-23I am malay and we apply “param” and “pilis” – traditional herbs and plants that have been grounded into powder and mixed with water to make a paste to be applied and smeared on the body and forehead of the new mother to “eliminate excess wind” from the body and to keep her fresh and warm. Is this necessary?
- 2016-08-23The ang mohs are not following confinement practices like us Chinese but they still grew up fine. Are there are medical evidence behind all these chinese confinement practices?
- 2016-08-23I'm Indian (Punjabi) and we are made to eat this dish called Panjiri during confinement period.

- 2016-08-23Hi mummies, honestly speaking I have not much female friends in life so I don't know who to ask. I am very scared of the contraction pain and labour pain. I WANT A PAIN FREE delivery from start till end, sorry to say I don't want to experience motherhood. As long as I can deliver my baby out safely, I am happy. So this is the reason I need to seek those who have undergone through Normal Delivery with Epidurals pls help me to answer some truthful experiences. THANK YOU!!!!
Q1a) When can a pregnant mum start to ask for epidural to be administered?? In observation Ward while waiting for dilation?? Coz I also don't want to feel any slight to intense contractions.
Q1b) From the moment she enters the hospital with mild contractions??? Or only when she has very intense contractions prior to actual labour???
Q2) Does epidural effect 100% NUMB the lower part of body UNTIL the FULL DELIVERY OF BABY??? Actually how effective or how long can it lasts till???
Q3a) How to lie down on your back flat if epidural is at your back??? Will not block the epidural from getting into your body???
Q3b) Is epidural considered an anesthesia??? Recently I only heard 2 mums said they ownself press a button to release epidural, how come is like that???? Not done by nurses or doc???
Q3c) Is there any MIN or MAX dosage of epidural can be used???
Q4a) Was there ANY SLIGHTEST PAIN felt when pushing of baby at the cervix & vagina if epidural has been used??? Coz I REALLY don't want to feel any pain when pushing.
Q4b) And....also how to push the baby out if lower body is fully numb??? Or actually when pushing baby, there will be no or lesser epidural used???
Q5) Any anesthesia or numbing cream used before cutting the vagina and stitching back??? Or the epidural is actually still effective??? Any SLIGHTEST PAIN felt too???
- 2016-08-23Hi mummies, my LO is only 6 months old. He is having a bad cough. Is there any medicine for him? Can he drink honey?
- 2016-08-23Hi mummies. My girl had her hep b 2nd dose at the polyclinic and is scheduled for her 3rd month (5-in-1) jab soon. However, I'm thinking of switching her to my regular pd for the 6-in-1 jabs. Is it still possible as I understand the combination is slightly different for polyclinics and private clinics? Feel that I am more comfortable having a doctor who knows my girl's medical history to administer the jab instead of having different nurses administering the jabs each time we go to the polyclinic. Thanks!
- 2016-08-23I'd like to get some advice and pointers (on weaning and introducing solids) from parents who have sent their babies to infant care. My daughter shall be turning 6mo in about a month's time. I would like to follow the 3 day rule when preparing purees for her. I would like some help in terms of the following:
1) How much food should I prepare so that I can bring to the ifc to complement the breastmilk which should still be her main intake?
2) Stupid question, but am I right that bm volume can increase even though she is taking solids? or should bm volume be adjusted lower since she has additional food source?
3) I read that solids should preferably not be fed in the evening as it is harder to digest. Does this mean that I would not get to feed my baby solids on weekdays since I am working full time and I get to see her only around 7pm or later?
4) I plan to prepare my own purees for her in advance. Polyclinic doc advised me to start with the not-so-nice-tasting veggies to expose her to such tastes first. What veggies are good for a start? Will be using the Philips steamer/blender. Do I wait for the blended puree to cool down first then freeze? if so, where and how should I keep the hot puree aside to cool down (avoid contamination and bacteria)?
5) If I intend to freeze in small quantity cubes, and then apportion/transfer required qty to bm storage bags (i have excess), should I take them directly out from the freezer only on the very morning itself or should I transfer down to the lower fridge compartment the night before?
6) Do I give bm and purees for a start or bm and cereals?
Thank you in advance for your contribution and sharing in any possible way. Cheers!
- 2016-08-24How much milk should an 8 month old be drinking in a day with 2 complementary meals per day and how much and the portion she should eat for each meal?
My LO's growth is 25 percentile. Generally, drinking 120ml 5 times per day. Did increase to 150mls but sometimes she finish, sometimes doesn't.

- 2016-08-24Do you think mist humidifier is good for newborn baby sleeping in aircon room? I feel that the air is dry sometimes.
- 2016-08-24Our doctor is suspecting my child is having asthma due to second-hand and third-hand smoke from her grandparents. We have been requesting her grandparents to stop smoking in front of her but they continue to do so as they think they are the grandparents and why they need to give in to the children. I have been restricting them from visiting my child specially when she is sick.
They promised my Husband that they will quit for my kid's health but when we meet-up they continue to do the same. My Father-in-law can finish half a pack during 3 hours outing with my kids and what make it worse is he love to use his hand to touch their mouth right after a smoking session. I have been quarrelling with my Husband several times over this but it always end up in a conclusion that I am a overly protection Mommy despite the many reports I provided.
What can I do to get my Husband to understand my child's health should be the priority and it is not a issue of me finding problem with them?

- 2016-08-24I'm still very lost and unable to come to terms with my current custody issues, I hope someone can help me logically come to terms with it.
Basically me & my wife cannot get along and there was no violence or whatsoever.
We have been living apart since Feb 2016
My son is only 10 months old and was not on breast feeding at all, I was taking care of my son since April 2016 for 5 days a week.
On July 2016, she took the my son away and filed a custody order (GIA) on me since then I never had any genuine access to my son
She put our son in infant care for the month of August.
After I hired a lawyer when mediation fail on 15 August 2016, the court only recommended me Interim access for 9 am to 6 pm on Sunday and weird access time on weekdays which is not feasible.
I feel very lost, why shouldn't we revert back to the old arrange pending the court case?
I feel that anyone whom wants to win a custody battle can take the child away and don't give access to the child to get an advantage over the custody battle.
I just want to come to terms with it but I can't logically, is eating me from inside. Anyone whom experience the same issue, please reply...

- 2016-08-25I am the writer for previous several posts indicating my serious nervous breakdown on the scary fears of contraction and delivery labour pains.
My mum in law understood my fears & worried I am having a mental breakdown or severe depression which I am facing seriously lately!
I told her directly I may want to go for C-sect with epidural delivery even if my baby is not in breech position. Because I heard from 2 friends that their C-sect's wounds are not really very painful after delivery. If painful, just take painkillers to ease. I don't know how true though.
But my mum in law "insisted & psychoed" me to go for normal delivery with epidural. She told me the contraction & actual labour pains were ok to deal with which can be tolerated. But my pain threshold is extremely low. Then she also told me the wound (vagina tear or the cut due to episiotomy) wouldn't hurt as much as the big wound caused by C-sect op. She asked me: "Is it you want to have any excruciating pains from a C-sect wound? And do you know if the wound is not cleaned well, then will have infections too? Is that what I want?" She has her own points, makes sense and concerns too.
She sounded really upset when I told her my current decision about C-sect with epidural and she told me very FIRMLY twice: "Ok I don't care which delivery method you used as long as my grandchild (gender unknown yet) is safely delivered! I just want to have a healthy grandchild that's all!"
What should I do? She really wants me to go by natural delivery badly & maybe I want C-sect because I really don't want to experience contraction, dilation & actual labour pains! Of course I don't mind trying normal delivery with epidural as long as the anesthesia effect can last from contraction pains till full actual delivery (pushing out of baby).
Pls advise mummies! Thanks!

- 2016-08-25I want to try normal delivery with epidural but I just saw the epidural needle is very thick and long. This is my 1st pregnancy and I am already having mental breakdown due to contraction & labour pains. I had nightmares everynight and cannot sleep from 2am to 6am daily! So seeing this thick needle makes me even more stressed and scary now.
I am really scared of pain extremely. How do they administer into the spinal or epidural space? Is it going to be very painful when they insert into the spine? Any anesthesia to numb the spine area prior insertion of the epidural needle?

- 2016-08-26I'm going nuts. I'm FTWM and recently everytime I checked my LO's formula, it had turned bad to a semi solid state and has a very strong sour smell. I sometimes find out after my LO drank the milk! My maid takes care of my LO in the day when I'm working, and my husband is at home more than I do. I informed them after I first found out about the spoilt milk, but I have had the luck to discover spoilt milk again a few more times after that. I'm kind of angry, but I know it's not deliberate. However, I cannot stand that it repeatedly happens even when my husband is at home more to supervise the maid. I have no idea how long my LO has been drinking bad milk before I discover it.
How do FTWM manage the household by yourself when most of your time is out of home? Assuming you don't have anyone at home to supervise the maid.

- 2016-08-26Hi mums, I have been a silent reader of ParentTown as I am not a new mum but a rather old mum. My daughter is pregnant right now and I am very excited to be a grand mum. I want to make sure that I support her well on her breastfeeding journey, even though at our time, mums did not breastfeed but we fed formula. How can I be a good support for her when the baby arrives?
- 2016-08-26Hi
How much should 1month old baby drinks.
Is there any calculation? Baby is drinking 100ml and weighs 5kg.She will usually have reflux about 4times during that 3hours till her next milk and sometimes will spit out about 10ml of milk it can be right after her burp or within the 3hrs.
Out of 6 feeds baby will at least( i dunnoe if i should consider it vomit cause is about 10-20ml or reflux) she will have at least 3-4 times of vomit of that 10-20ml amount.
I have tried reducing it to 70-80ml is still the same.
I dunnoe what should i do now.
She is always struggling to drink like flow too fast but when i remove it she will ask for milk.all bottles tried she struggle even latching also she's struggling (hand and legs)like choking.
I burped baby at least 5 times still the milk flow out.
Need mummies daddies advice
Thanks!

- 2016-08-27Hi mummies, recently I resumed my pumping routine and realized that when my breasts are engorged and hard, I only managed to pump out 60ml per side. After my pumping session, my breasts feel soft but sore. However, when my breasts are not so engorged, I can pump up to 150ml per side and my breasts are not sore at all. If I can only pump out 60ml and still feel sore, does it mean that my breasts are not emptied still? Not sure why the difference is so huge and I'm sure it's not due to my period or whatsoever. Thanks.

- 2016-08-27Any dada out there who have problem soothing the baby to sleep?
For some reason every time I cradle the baby, the baby will cry within seconds.
I am doing exactly the same technique as what my Wife or my mom or mid Wife.
But for some reason it's always crying when I carry him.
That makes me feel very down and out and useless. I just try to support my Wife emotionally, run errands and change diapers.
I worry she might physically be very tired
