- 2023-02-27Hi mummies out there. Just having some random thoughts I have about feeding newborns. How do you manage to wash bottle after every feed (let’s say every 3 hrs?) while it’s so tiring haha or it’s not as tedious as I thought 🤔 Do you guys use bottle cleaner & steriliser or just boiling water? How many feeding bottles do you actually need?
Thank you in advance for answering 😊

- 2023-02-27Hi mummies,
Any difference in ingredients for Nestle Nan formula milk selling in Singapore and Malaysia?
Looks like Malaysia is selling Nan Pro and Spore is selling as Nan Optipro.. a bit confused whether they are the same?
My LO is currently 5m+ and had been taking Nan Optipro SG version. As he is going to switch to stage 2 of FM soon, i am thinking to buy from Msia as much more cheaper.
Any sharing will be greatly appreciated!!

- 2023-02-28One of the major choices that you have to make in terms of pregnancy and delivery is the selection of hospital, the place where you will meet your baby for the first time. There are physical and virtual hospital tours that guide you through the labour ward, maternity wards, facilities available etc. Here are a few pointers you can consider while you are confused about choosing the maternity hospital from a varied list of options.
1. Facilities - You can check how comfortable and updated are the delivery/labor suites and the maternity wards where you have to stay for 2-3 days depending on vaginal birth/ C-sec. The delivery suite should be well equipped to handle any situation in the course of labor.
2. OBGYN's affiliation - If you are specific on your obstetrician/gynaecologist, then you have to find out which hospital he/she is affiliated to because not all doctors can perform their duties in all hospitals.
3. Proximity to your residence - As far as pregnancy and delivery are concerned, you can expect the unexpected anytime. For most mothers, the onset of labor might be sooner than edd (estimated delivery date) while for some who have opted for elective C-sec or induced delivery, labor might kick off before the scheduled date/time. And scenarios like spotting/bleeding/water break etc cannot be omitted. So in such cases, you may have to rush to the hospital immediately and by road only via can or your own car. So keep in mind the road traffic and distance between your house and hospital.
4. Pain reduction methods - There are several pain reduction methods available like laughing gas, natural ones like playing music etc along with most common epidural. You may have to find out what are the options available in different hospitals because this is something you can decide at the time of labor too as you never know the intensity of labor until you experience it. But it is good to have varied options.
5. Responsiveness - This is not only based on how your queries get addressed but in case of an emergency when you rush to a hospital how fast and responsive they are in handling the mother and immediately giving the right care and attention to her. For instance, you cannot keep a mother whose water broke, waiting in the reception for hours together.
6. Insurance and payment - For those who have purchased maternity insurance or covered by your employer, you have to find out whether the hospital is in network
7. Number of experienced midwives - this can be very important because in some emergency circumstance, when your obgyn is rushing to attend to you, it is the midwives who will be taking care of you and helping you
8. Confinement food options available - If you got specific conditions about food and you are dependent on hospital food, then it is better you check in advance whether the hospital caters to your needs, for instance vegetarian food option, Indian food etc
9. Maternity only/Multi speciality hospital - this is one point that my gynae suggested to me, as there are multiple unforeseen scenarios that can occur during labour it is always better to choose a maternity cum multi speciality hospital so that the other specialists/surgeons will be at your need immediately as compared to the maternity only hospital where the specialist has to come from some other clinic or hospital
10. Birthing options available - Some choose water birth method etc which are available only in few hospitals.
11. Pricing and packages - Last but not the least you have to compare the pricing and packages available to decide which one suits your needs and financial position
12. Ambience - You can check whether any construction is going on at the site or adjacent which might cause hindrance during the labour or your post delivery stay.

- 2023-02-28Does anyone have any advise or experience of baby with prolonged jaundice?
My son is 1 month plus old already. His jaundice levels is still within the 200 plus range. Previously, he had a 24 hour phototherapy at kkh, which helps to bring down to 100 plus. But then the jaundice levels slowly crept back up the week after. When back to kkh and did a series of blood tests, and all is okay though.
So I recently tried to do mixed feeding of 1 to 2 fm a day. I also bathe him in the yellow flower water and bring him for sun tanning. But it does not seem to help. He still sleeps a lot and he still looks yellow.
What else can I do? Should I change to full fm?

- 2023-03-01Hi everyone!
I am pregnant with my 2nd kid, I am also having a lot of anxiety as I have been through 3 recurrent miscarriages after having my 1st born. I have an anterior placenta which could be cushioning baby's movement. I felt flutters last week, but not very distinctive. But this week, I've barely or not even felt baby move at all.
I know it could be that my baby has changed position and they still do have a lot of room in there. But I don't know what to feel?
Anyone with similar experiences or any advice on how I can deal with my sudden anxiety of thinking something happened to my baby?#advicepls #pleasehelp :(

- 2023-03-01Hi there!
How's everyone doing today? I'm super excited to be here with you for this upcoming topic on maintaining a healthy weight during pregnancy.
--------------------
Here are some questions asked in our community, and we got the answers for you ✅
👩💼Hi! Im experiencing extreme vomiting and sometimes i had diarrhea in the morning or rather loose/ watery stools. I lost weight so much, now im 46.6kg. Do i have to be worried bout this situation im in right now. Im stressed out cause i cant seem to get food or water down for a long time. It would just come out after half n hour atleast.
👩🔬Your symptoms sound very disturbing for you. With multiple episodes of vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss and loss of appetite, please do see a medical practitioner to assess the severity of weight loss, hydration and have an abdominal examination for further advice on your condition.
👩💼I feel like I need to eat carbs every 2 hours, or I get quite uncomfortable. And I can eat almost a full meal every time I eat, which is quite worrisome as I don’t want to gain too much weight or risk GD! Even waking up and drinking Milo with crackers is not enough for breakfast, only enough to gain some minimal energy so I can go and buy more food. must eat some noodles as a second breakfast then nausea will settle.
👩🔬For a healthy diet, it is important to have a balanced proportion of carbohydrates, protein and fibre, and make sure there's lots of water intake to stay well hydrated. Sometimes, it is better to take multiple small meals if one feels too nauseated with a large meal. In terms of portion, it is generally recommended to take normal portions in first trimester, extra 350kcal/day in second trimester and 450kcal/day in third trimester. Hope that helps!
👩💼I've entered 2nd trimester and now gaining alot of weight. I used to weigh 58kg before pregnancy, 50kg in my 1st trimester (the nausea and vomiting was really bad, and I had no appetite), and now I weigh 55kg in my 2nd trimester because I'm eating more frequently.
👩🔬Weight gain in pregnancy is normal and is expected to be different in mothers of varying BMI. For a mother whose BMI is 18-24.9kg/m2, an estimated weight gain of about 12kg - 16kg is usually acceptable.

- 2023-03-01Hello everyone! Excited to “see” you! I am Dr. Katrina Heng, Medical Doctor, Pediatrics (Doctor Anywhere).
Together with the team at TheAsianParent, we have addressed your concerns regarding your kid's immunisations.
----------------------------
Here are some questions asked in our community, and we got the answers for you ✅
👩💼Can my baby have a vaccine when he has a cold or cough? Do I need to delay the vaccine till he gets well?
👩🔬There are instances that would warrant a delay in your child’s vaccination, which will be discussed with you prior to your child’s vaccination or on the day of vaccination. Take for example, an ongoing high fever would be such an instance. I recommend discussing your concerns with your nurse or doctor before coming to a decision together. I hope this helps address your concerns
👩💼What are the critical immunizations if we are unable to get every immunization?
👩🔬Dear mummy, if you are referring to optional immunizations that could prevent critical illness; this would depend on the exposure risks. For example; if you are planning to travel to a country that is endemic to Measles. Instead of waiting for the vaccination when your child is 12months old, you could discuss your concerns with your family doctor, who would be able to advise you accordingly. There are immunizations against diseases endemic to countries that may be applicable to you and your child, prior to your travels, which can be addressed by your family doctor.
In Singapore, most children are recommended to follow the National Childhood Immunization Schedule (NCIS) to protect them against preventable diseases as early and safe as possible. I hope this helps address your concerns.
👩💼What are the risk factors if we fail to give immunisations on the date?
👩🔬Risk factors inevitably increases one’s chance and risk of catching the illness. By adhering to your child’s immunization schedule, it helps reduce the chance of catching a preventable disease. A few of the preventable diseases have undesireable long term medical consequences, which could be avoided. A good amount of data and research has been put into the planning of these schedules, to protect your child and the community they live in.
However, vaccines are not always 100% effective for all children due to various reasons. I would still strongly recommend parents to follow the immunization schedule, as one cannot anticipate unforeseen circumstances that may cause deviations from your child’s immunization schedule. I hope this helps address your concerns.

yesterday night was intense back pain and time to time the pain moved forward and the pain i had does not go away no matter what i do or no matter the position i changed. pain intervals was about 10-15 mins apart and lasted for 15-30 mins each.
now i'm wondering.... it happened for 9 rounds of pain in total but j am able to sleep through and only felt tightenings for those times that i woke up.
is it braxton hicks or real contraction? i'm confused...

Was told by AMC to come back next week at Week 10 to do OSCAR counselling and blood test for both me and my hubby. Was told blood test needs to be done before second trimester.
However waited for days and no SMS appointment was sent to me. Called KKH and AMC say to only come back 27 March to do everything one shot. Scan and blood test, but by then I’ll be on second trimester already.
Feeling confused. I’m wondering if KKH messed up somewhere? Anyone with OSCAR test experience can advise me on the correct procedure? #advicepls

- 2023-03-04Hello!
I'm looking for stroller recommendations. One that is lightweight, can auto fold and have a carry on strap.
On days that my husband is working and cannot drive us, I would need to take a bus/mrt with my almost 2.5 year old toddler. So I was thinking of folding and carrying the stroller while I hold my toddler's hand and let him walk up the bus, but let him sit in the stroller while he's in the MRT so he won't run around (you know.. toddlers can be active).

- 2023-03-04Hi mummies, I’d like to seek what’s your take on this. I’ve just returned to work from my maternity last month. My employer informed me that the company is looking at cutting manpower and have to let go of some employees. They mentioned it has nothing to do with my performances or anything else personal, other than the context where the company is not making money, thus the downsizing.
They’d asked me to submit my resignation letter to them instead of retrenching me so that it would look better for me when I seek a new job.
From my point of view, it felt like they wanna avoid paying retrenchment benefits as compensation for the loss of employment. Thus, they insisted that I submit my resignation instead and claimed that this is not a retrenchment.
I’m upset/uncomfortable with the decision as I felt like I’m being forced to resign. The thought of how hard it gonna be to look for a new job with an infant makes it worse. Would you oblige and submit your resignation (so that it won’t ruin your reputation when seeking a new job) or get them to terminate you instead and seek compensation (but doesn’t reflect so well on you)? 😔

Went for check up today at 37 weeks 6 days and my gynae told me after the scan that baby’s head is still not engaged.
She suggested that sex can help but is there is any other way for engaging baby’s head?
Any other mums faced this ? Should I be worried?

- 2023-03-04I’m currently 17 weeks pregnant working in a government healthcare settings.
Because of this pregnancy, I tend to walk or do things slower…as I get breathless and giddy easily…im anaemic btw…
There a few colleagues of mine especially one male colleagues. He keep making fun of the way I walk and he even mimicked the way I walk right infront of me…
Honestly I got offended.
But it seems like I can’t do anything…
