BF diet

Hi mummies! Care to share your breastfeeding diet? Any particular food to avoid? What I've heard are spicy food, coconut milk that might give baby the runs or seafood etc. For my meals nowadays, I feel I could not eat as freely as before and have to consider if I can eat the food/ingredient infront of me. Not to mention BM killers I read like raw onions, cabbage etc..

Am at my 4th mth doing exclusive latching for my bb. Honestly at first I avoided a lot of food until my cousin (works as a nutritionist) asked me whether I really did enjoy breastfeeding since I’ve a whole lot of list of food to avoid. I replied ya,very tiring becos I have to check and read up on every single food before putting into my mouth. So she told me I don’t have o do that. If I avoid a lot of food, baby will not be expose to those food via breastmilk and this might caused my baby to be picky eaters next time. And also, if I don’t enjoy breastfeeding then how can I do for long.. so after that talk and reassurance that everything is fine so long eat in moderation, I started to eat better and I think my bb is happier becos happy mum=happy baby. So don’t worry ok! Just eat well. All in moderation. If u want to drink caffeine or alcohol or eat anything that u think is not suitable/or u scared, just don’t breastfeed for the next 2hrs. Anyway the food we eat, only a little will pass via our milk to baby..so no worries. 😆

Thanks mummy! I am more reassured now that I can eat freely 😆

I just eat my normal diet! Of course trying to eat healthy foods and a range of foods is good exposure for little one. I maybe didn’t tAke as much spicy food at first but slowly slowly more and more. I don’t feel restricted at all! Cabbage was a bit of a milk killer for me but I would try to limit and I was fine. Take care and just enjoying BF your little one.

I actually don't avoid anything in particular but I do restrict caffeine and alcohol intake before pumping. Only take alcohol after my last pump at night. And coffee I keep to 1 cup a day after my first pump in morning. Rest of diet as per usual. I eat alot of spicy!!! Don't see any problem.

Actually I don’t avoid anything except alcohol (never drank it anyway), and just probably not too much caffeine. I had to avoid brocolli for a while because it made my baby gassy, but after a while it was fine. I love spicy food, and baby’s always been okay with me taking that:)

My usual diet - i didn't avoid spicy; still having a cup of coffee or tea a day. I did avoid cabbage till baby is 6months though..had cabbage after that but did not affect my milk supply - everyone reacts differently. Drink lots of water!

I eat everything in moderation coz I believe by the time my body digests and breaks down the food to make breastmilk for my baby wouldn’t be that bad

I just eat as per normal. Even spicy food, coconut, sashimi.... Already restrain so much during pregnancy.

I eat everything and anything that I want during breastfeeding. Alcohol after 2 hours then breastfeed.

Just eat what you want. But would advise against high mercury fish like tuna, swordfish.
