The number of cycles of chemotherapy would depend on the stage and type of breast cancer you have. The more common numbers that we practice range between 4-8 cycles. Common side effects would include hair loss, nausea/vomiting, some patients have diarrhoea/bloatedness, some have constipation, oral ulcers, as well as effect on blood counts like red cell count and white cell count, which could predispose a person to have infection, or serious forms of infections. Talk to your oncologist, many of the side effects have very effective medication nowadays and most patients can go through chemotherapy fairly well. There are injections to improve your cell counts as well. We generally do not advise for breast feeding during chemotherapy as the drug can pass into milk and the milk would contain some amount of chemotherapy, which is toxic to infants
