Oh my gosh - I have so many to add to this list. Will add in the ones that no one else mentioned. 1. Cut babies eyelashes so it grows longer 2. Tell babies the opposite things - so for example say that baby is ugly or stupid or fat if you want the opposite (it's shocking how many aunties believe in this) 3. Pinch baby's nose so that the nose will be sharp. 4. Cut/shave the hair so that it will grow out thicker and fuller. 5. immediately after baby is born cut a little of their hair n throw in running water. 6. baby s*** will be green if baby is scared. 7. baby like hot places, because come from your womb. 8. the number of lines at the fold of baby's knees will tell you whether your next child will be boy or girl. 9. let baby girl wear boy clothes so next child can be boy and vice versa. 10. Feed her with a scoop of pearl powder - it's a magic cure everything

my goodness! you mean there's this urine theory circulating around?! Here's mine. Not specific to confinement but myths. 1. if baby drools, it's going to rain 2. if baby has eye secretion means he's heaty 3. rub beer on his scalp to grow more hair 4. give gripe water and ruyi oil for every single ailment, even the lack of an ailment, because it's an elixir. the baby will be easier to look after 5. only a male family member is allowed to deliver confinement food, so that the next baby will be a boy. 6. Pregnant women should not be seated on the same bed, or else the baby in your tummy will change gender 7. Pregnant women should not eat pig stomach for the gender of your baby will be changed 8. cannot cry during your confinement, or else your eyesight will be affected 9. drink while sitting down or else you will suffer from incontinence

If baby tongue has whitish stuffs, wipe it off using a wet cloth with a bit of her urine to clean it 8. Do not drink water only purely red dates drink during confinement 9. Ok for baby to sleep all night long in a yao lan (not okay - yao lan should only be used for very short naps - 30 mins at one stretch)

1) One of the things that I notice is the mothers not getting enough rest or sleep especially when the baby is sleeping. New mommies think they can get alot of stuff done at this time and go all out, only to exhaust themselves further. 2) No showers or hair washing 3) No going out 4) Only eat meats and livers 5) No crying or reading cos it causes eye infections (whuttt?) 6) No water (again whutttt) Here's a great read: http://sg.theasianparent.com/confinement_advice_for_new_mums/
