First trimester test

Hi, may I know if it is necessary to do first trimester test? The one that need to be done before end of first trimester. Our OB said it’s optional as the result will be showing possibility. First time mom and I’m not sure if I should go for it. Most of my friend skip this. Anyone can share experience or advice? Thank you

Hi. For exact confirmation, you can ask directly your OB the test name. Whether it is blood test, or scan. But usually for 1st trimester, compulsory scan is to detect the number of fetus, determine gestational age and whether fetal heart beat is seen or not. There is another test, which is optional, called nuchal translucency ultrasound where it measure the space at the back of fetus's neck. Usually done before 1st trimester ends. Abnormal measurement may indicate Down Syndrome or other congenital disabilities. If not mistaken, a blood test can also detect these possibility. Hope these help clarify your question a bit 😊
