During my pregnancy I was told that my baby’s nuchal translucency was high and chance for the DS or other syndromes was high. I was 27 years old and doc said there was little chance for DS or other syndrome so I did not proceed with a NIPT nor amniocentesis. But many doctors push for NIPT anyway. Why is this the case?

From our knowledge, NIPT, Noninvasive Prenatal Testing is performed with a simple maternal blood draw. Amniocentesis is where amniotic fluid is removed by inserting a thin needle into the uterus through the mother’s abdomen for testing or treatment. Please consult your gynaecologist for more detailed information.
