At present, there is no common consensus on whether teething causes symptoms such as fever, diarrhea and fussiness. Some experts feel that these symptoms are unrelated to teething. It is suggested that these symptoms are more likely brought on by the fact that babies frequently put things into their mouths to soothe their gums, increasing their exposure to viruses and other germs. Regardless, here are some signs commonly associated with teething: - irritability or fussiness - drooling (could lead to facial rash) - gum swelling and sensitivity - gnawing or chewing behaviour - refusing food - sleep problems For more information on signs of teething: http://www.babycenter.com/0_teething-your-babys-first-teeth_11243.bc And here is an article with a list of home remedies to help ease your baby’s teething pain: http://sg.theasianparent.com/10-home-remedies-for-teething-pain/ For now, if you think that your baby is teething, you could keep a lookout for the items she put into his/her mouth to reduce the chances of diarrhea.

Hi! When my son started to have diarrhea and slight fever, we went to his pediatrician for consult. He said that they call it as “teething virus”. He explained that when tooth is erupting, they want something to bite that can relieve the discomfort of their gums. Our babies are biting anything that they see that can cause diarrhea. He suggested to give him teether preferably cold, which eases the swelling of the gums. Anything cold that he can bite and swallow like cold fruits.

As Hui Qun has mentioned, there isn't any scientific linked between teething & diarrhoea. If you suspect that your child is teething (see Hui Qun's comments for signs), you can offer him teethers to sooth his gums. For me personally, my son like gnawing on his cloth books that came with teething edges as well. I got a few of these cloth books at the January babyfair at about $8 each and he absolutely loves thema!

diarrhea is sometimes a sign of teething, as babies tend to pick up almost anything and everything they can lay their hands on and chew on it. this means that they are more exposed to germs and hence the diarrhea. i would suggest you try giving chilled carrot sticks to your baby, and also let your baby chew on teethers and teething rings. also, speak to the baby's doc about the diarrhea.

Many believe that the increased saliva produced during teething can cause stool to become slightly loose.Keep in mind, diarrhea can be a sign of a more serious infection so contact your infant’s pediatrician if the stool becomes watery, because your infant could be at risk for dehydration.

There is no proof that diarrhoea is a symptom of teething but I personally believe it too. For both my children, they have diarrhoea during teething.
