what does folic acid help with? how much intake do we need daily? and are there any natural ways to ingest it through food?

Hi Elisha, folic acid is a component needed in the development of neural tube (part of the embyo that will develop into the brain and spine). Lack of folic acid is associated with neural tube defect. The recommended dose for folic acid is 400 microgram daily. A dose of 5 mg is recommended for high risk pregnancy eg: previous history of neural tube defect. Folate (the natural form of folic acid) is present in green vegetables (broccoli, spinach), avocado, banana, mango etc. Some rice/bread/pasta are also fortified with folic acid.
