Our three-year-old still co-sleeps with us. Is it time for her to sleep in another room?

I think it really depends on whether you would want her to be in her own room. I think 3 years old is an appropriate age but it is still your decision. :) Here are some tips on how to get your child to sleep in his/her own bedroom: - Do it gradually: children hardly take well to sudden changes. Introduce the idea first before slowly implementing it. First move the crib to your room and have her sleep in the same room but in the crib. After she is used to that, move the crib to her own room. - Establish a routine: have them dressed and ready for bed in their own room. Settle them early so that they will feel comfortable - Create a nice and cozy bed: this makes going to sleep in their own rooms a pleasant experience. Have their favourite blanket or stuffed toy with them. - Be firm: when the child goes looking for his/her parents in the parents room, bring the child back to sleep in their own room for the rest of the night. - Find out if the child is afraid of anything: children are very imaginative and may be afraid of “monsters” in their rooms. Make a show of getting rid of the “monsters” and have a soft nightlight in the room may help alleviate their fears. - Stay with them: stay in their room till they fall asleep. Key is not to interact with them after the bedtime story is told so that they would learn that it’s time for time to sleep. When my sister-in-law was transiting my nephew to his own room, she told him that he is a “big boy now” and “deserves his own bed”. He has seen his cousins having their own beds so my sister-in-law also made reference to the older cousin and said that it’s time my nephew “be like __ korkor”. Children that age love copying others and that worked in helping with the transition.

We have the same problem! Our 3-year-old still co-sleeps too. Actually we too are trying to get him to sleep in his own bed. We even went out and got him a new bed. But, he won't hear of it. I think it is best to start early when it comes to getting kids to sleep in their own beds. The longer they co-sleep, the harder it is to get to be sleep independently. Have you tried rewarding them for sleeping in their own bed?

Yes, I would imagine. My nephew is 2 years old and now has his own bed. You can probably do this in stages. - Start off by having a cot in the same room and once she is off to sleep, move her to the cot. That way she would be close to you in case she wakes up, easing your fears as well. - Once she gets familiar to the cot, move the cot to a different room. Hopefully, it goes smoothly for you :)

Yes, i would think 3 is a good age to start making them go to bed on their own. It doesn't have to be a direct change. Try and ease them into sleeping on their own. They may be afraid of sleeping alone due to many reasons. Start of by sleeping in their bed with them till they fall asleep before leaving. Eventually they will get used to it.

It really depends on the both of you. Some parents let their children decide when to stop co-sleeping whereas sometimes, parents suddenly decide that they want their own bed back. My child is two months old and co sleeping with me for convenience as I direct latch her. I intend to move her to a cot soon.

I think yes. Do it slowly but sure started with putting her in her own cribs and notat the same bed with you. Then accompanied her in her own room every night until she is in deep sleep mode. There might be cry and drama in the middle of the night but he will get used to it eventually. Good luck!

Yes, at that age, kids should start sleeping in a separate room. To add on that, I think the kid's room should be themed. Know her favorite cartoon character and decorate it with that so that the kid will be more comfortable in sleeping in her own room.
