I read that when babies wake up crying, it is a sign that they have not had enough sleep and need more rest. It could also be related to a child's temperament. In these cases, if the crying is not related to hunger, diaper change or illness, sometimes it is best to wait a minute or two when you hear crying. Sometimes, your baby will go right back to sleep. And when you finally go to comfort baby, at least you’ll know that the crying was due to a lack of sleep.

not due to diaper or hunger. just wailing out of sudden. tried waiting a few mins but won't stop crying. had to carry walk around and keep talking to him while waiting for him to snap out of his "nightmare"

Did he play too much before napping like over stimulated? If my kids played too much like laughing too much til cannot catch the breathe or overly fast/hard heart pumping cos too excited or cried too much before sleeping, all these will cause 'nightmare' in their sleep. I will have to keep calling their name to wake them up and they will be fine.

My girl has that once in a while at nights. What we frantically do is to pick her up and soothe her by rubbing her back and speaking to her that daddy or mummy is here. Once she is slowly roused to some senses, she will automatically calm down due to the familiar voices and hug. :)

Maybe try some to on some soothing music when he's sleeping? My boy has been listening to kevin kern since the day he was born. He enjoys it and I feel it calm him down when he's over stimulated.

usually if they cry in their dream i will pat him slowly and talk..while doing that u can caress his hair calming him down..slowly..don wake him up.

I happen to my girl also..nowaday I will on the radio or some music for her when she sleep.. I tin with someone sound around they feel for secure..

I get this sometimes from my LO. now he is over a yr it's getting better. wondering if they really get nightmares

When my lo he's newborn also same very hard to pacify. But when time passes everything will be just fine mummy !

before nap, cool him down. read a simple story with him. avoid games, tv which may over stimulate his brain.

Give him a gentle massage, this improves their blood circulation and help them feel better and sleep
