cat vs newborn vs in laws

So my in laws has always been against my kitty. I have a 9mths old siamese kitty. Shower every other week, indoor cat, goes supervised outdoor (corridor) walking once a mth. But spend most of her time running, eating and sleeping like what cats do. Have to wipe her butt everytime she poops. My mil has been urging me to get rid my kitty even when we dont stay under 1 roof. She keeps saying that kitty will bite and scratch baby and cat furs will make baby have asthma etc etc. But i was brought up with cats, so im super attached to cats. Even told my hub that i need a cat once we move in together back then. And he agreed. I talk to hub abt this mil vs cat situation but he keeps saying that his mum is just fooling ard. Mil even talk to my mum to convince me to get rid of kitty. How or what or idk how to deal with this. And im due in 2 weeks time.

Your mil is just concern about your newborn safety. Probably try to convince her that you will make sure will not leave baby alone with the cat in the house and will always have someone to keep an eye on baby. About the cat's fur issue, if baby is really allergy to fur or has asthma, you may need to find a solution to separate your cat and baby (i.e: limit the cat's movement space in the house so that it is not near the baby, temporary keep the cat in your other family or relative house if convenient or let go to another cat's lover which is probably the hardest and last solution for you. )

Thanks everyone! I dont have the heart to give away my kitty as I've been grown up with cat since baby. I do have asthma and bad allergy to cat danders esp when kitty have past her schedule date to shower. I just get tired of mil complaining to my hub and mum abt this cat issue. My mum is ofc fine with it, as she has cats at home too!

The fact that shes not even under one roof, i will take her advice into deaf ears. Cats wont suke2 scratch or bite your nb. They are generally gentle, but curious. Just stand firm. Not unless allergies developed, then thats another story altogether. Hope all is well and u get to keep yr kitty!

I understand what you are going through, my mum does that too, when she dis-approve of something, she will keep saying, if the person does not listen. She will go telling others to go convince, main is to get her objective achieved. These are very manipulative and controlling personality.

Talk to your hubby, I'm sure he'll help to talk to his mum. Meanwhile, you're due in 2 weeks! Try not to be too stressed up abt this and enjoy this last leg (:

Cat is yours not your mil So you have say on what to do with it. However, if your newborn develops allergy to the cat, you need to give the cat up right?

I will not care about mil. Since the cat wasn’t taking care by your mil in the first place. She got no say.

Just ignore... all the best!
