Don’t worry if you've left a gap between daytime potty training and getting them dry at night. This is completely normal: most pre-schoolers aren’t toilet trained at night until aged three or sometimes nearer four. You’ll know when the right time is to start. Sometimes your little one may tell you that they do not want to wear diapers anymore and yes, this is the time. The other sign is that their nappies are dry or nearly dry for several nights in a week. That means they’ve got the physical maturity to go a whole night without weeing. However, this is not always a reliable indicator - sometimes they use their night nappy for an early morning wee because they know it’s there, which is perfectly logical. You may wish to start with using pull-ups and say you think they are old enough to go to the loo or use the potty at night. They might be very happy about it too.

We took our daughter out of night time diapers when she was 2.5, but friends carried on till their kids were 4-4.5 years. If you think your child is ready now, then start him off now. Here are a few things that helped us transition: 1. Teaching him how to recognise the signs from his body, that he needed to pee. 2. Early dinner and reduced liquid intake for about 1.5 hours before bed time, and 2-3 trips to the bathroom before sleep. 3. Alarm clock for us poor parents to wake up around 4 am to take her to the bathroom (each child has a different rhythm and you need to find your child's) for about two weeks. 4. A rubber sheet on the mattress in case of accidents. It took us about a month before we finally settled into diaper free nights.

My gal was about 3 yrs old when she was completely diaper free at night and during nap. It was tough for both parents and child Coz we had to wake up to bring child to toilet. Child might be grumpy and whinny but after this trying period of a week or 2, it is rainbow. I would say a sense of achievement for her and u.

You have to take a chance and the time is right now. It is not an easy task to wean kids off diapers, but trust me this too shall pass. Also, since it's summer now, it is the right time for you to let your child be without diapers. However, remember to take him to the bathroom just before he hits the bed:)

I started to practice my daughter when she was 2.5 years old. I took her to toilet before bed time and still put diaper on. I stop using diaper once I was confident that she sleep throught the night and did not wet the bed.

I think you should take the leap of faith if not it will never happen. If you're worried of wetting the bed you could line it with a rubber mat and an incontinence sheet. Just do it and have faith in your kid!
