There are a lot of physical changes which happen when you give birth, so it's hard to say when exactly you'll recover. http://www.babycentre.co.uk/a553491/recovery-after-the-birth If you're talking about the stitches alone, mine wasn't painful enough to require painkillers, but it still stung. The stitches took roughly two weeks to heal. Lochia took about 1 month to clear. You also have to consider the recovery for the inside of our bodies. It is generally recommended that birth intervals be about 12 to 18 months apart for the mother to rest. http://vbacfacts.com/2011/11/11/birth-intervals-uterine-rupture/

It really depends how the delivery was, and varies from person to person. For my #1, I could walk after 4 hours with support and by the next day, it was as if nothing pop out from there. I did natural delivery (2hrs plus) without epidural, baby was 3.6kg and got 3 or 4 stitches. For my #2, it hurt like mad. I had difficulties getting up from the sofa/chair/bed. I walked soooooo slowly and cried everytime I peed coz it hurt. For 2 weeks I was in pain. I did natural delivery with epidural (9 hrs), baby was 4.3kg and got 2 stitches.

I had a vaginal birth and I still remember that I asked my doctor if I could take a walk when I was still in the recovery room! It depends from person to person though, but experts say that vaginal births are less stressful than C-sections. Besides, they help you go through the whole experience of natural birthing which is an enriching experience for a mother.
