Puan, Sindrom Down boleh dikesan sewaktu awal kehamilan melalui beberapa ujian pengesanan iaitu:1) Amniocentesis – sewaktu kandungan berusia 16 minggu 2) Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) – 9-11 minggu 3) Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) – letak awal trimester kehamilan. Sila dapatkan nasihat daripada doktor atau pakar perubatan yang bertauliah mengenai ujian berkenaan.

Most cases of Down syndrome are not inherited. There are 3 types of Down Syndrome: 1) Trisomy 21 (95% of cases) 2) Translocation (4% of cases) and 3) Mosaicism (1% of cases). It is important to know what type of Down Syndrome the child is with, because one-third of cases of Down Syndrome resulting from Translocation there is a hereditary component.
