My baby is turning 9 months and he cries badly and wakes up at least 6-9 times in night from the last 20 days. Earlier the frequency was 2-3 times only. He does not calm down even with feed, when we wakes him up then he looks fine. We need to struggle to make him asleep every time he wakes up. I don't think so he is colic.

Hi, Probably because he is in his aggressive developmental phase, his sleeping pattern is getting disturbed. I have read that during this time, the baby is developing at a very fast phase mentally that his sleeping pattern gets disturbed. Like he is learning so many new things, picking up words, teething, learning to crawl, introduced to food, so many things are happening with him all at the same time and it does take a toll on him and sleep is the one through which we get a hint of it as baby himself cannot tell you as what different is going on. It is just a phase and it will pass and he will form a regular sleeping schedule like yours. All you can do now is, since he must be taking solids as well is, that feed him full before his sleep time. When babies are full then babies sleep well. Sometimes, babies wake because they want breast feed and it is just for comfort feeding, just to have your touch and feel you around.

at 9 months your baby is probably at a huge development and growth phase, and is also moving around a lot. it is possible that your baby gets really tired, and is extra hungry too. try bringing down meal time to just a little before bedtime, so that your baby is happily full. also, make sure that your baby sleeps on time and is not over-exerted by the time he finally falls asleep. massage his legs and hands each day, as well as his back and shoulders. give him a nice warm bath before bed to calm him down. if he still wakes up in the middle of the night, try and calm him down to sleep, instead of getting up and playing or talking too much.

no it is definitely not colic, as colic usually starts around the 2nd month and is over by the 4th or 5th month. i think your baby is getting tired and also more independent. plus it is also possible that baby is getting hungry and hence wakes up. make sure there is not a big gap between the last meal or feed and bedtime. also, avoid playing when your baby wakes up in the middle of the night. instead keep tapping, or let your baby play alone sitting on the bed next to you, even as you lie down and quietly keep a watch. don't entertain baby at night, and slowly he will fall into a sleep pattern.

Besides colic, it may be due to body stress. Has the child started to crawl, move. Is he in the same position for too long causing body stress, is he hungry or thirsty. We as mothers need to clue down. Try massaging before sleep, see that he is full, try giving water if he wakes up. Testing may be responsible too

try massaging his legs and back before he sleeps after a lukewarm sponge.
