When did you first introduce colouring books to your toddlers?

Personally I feel that the ideal age would be 18months. They are able to recognise colours by then. When you decide it is time to see if your toddler is ready to attempt coloring, you will need a few things to get started. Purchase large, chunky crayons so that he can grasp them with his chubby little hands. You will also need a large pad of plain white paper, or a roll of butcher paper. Seat him at the table and tape down a large sheet of the paper, or if you have hard floors spread out the paper and tape it down so it doesn't slide around when he is trying to color. Take out a few crayons and show him what to do.

Whenever toddler shows the interest in using the crayons I would say they are ready. My nephew is almost 23 months and just loves coloring. I think I introduced them at around 16 months. I've even let hem use felt pens, dot dabbers, and paint (I've sat with him when he has used these). He also loves sticking stickers to all her works of art.

2 years up would be best as they have more control over their motor skills and can understand better but you can still introduce the books earlier so that they can play around with it but please have the patience to coach them and guide them... saw many parents just leave them with it and go do other stuff, this is the best time to bond with your child....

My son started colouring at 16 months. Of course, out of the lines, but he was very creative- trying out different colours and he simply loved crayons. I suggest you start off with huge pictures, and chunky crayons rather than the thin coloured pencils - kids at that age cannot grip those so well. Have fun colouring!

I'd say 2 years old when I'm confident that my kid will not swallow or even bite the crayons. Basically, if my child can understand and follow instructions. But as early as 6 months, start showing her colorful books but don't hand the books to the baby because he or she will tear them apart unless it's a soft book.

My child can recognise color at 15 months. I let him plays melissa and doug fishes color matching repeatedly. When I passed by cars, I will tell him the color of the cars one by one. And we found out his favourite color is green! And now he is 2.5 years old his fav color is still green.

Around 18 - 20 months would be great. When they have a good grip around the colour pencils as well as when they are less likely to end up putting the pencils or crayons in their mouth. I would still suggest to supervise over your child while they are colouring.

I started when my daughter was 14 mo. She loved coloring with crayons. Gradually we moved to markers and pens and paints. She doesn't have 'coloring books' as such -- just a sheet of plain paper wherever you can find.

Most of my friends said that their children usually start around 16 to 18 months. Majority was introduced to colouring when they are at childcare.
