As a parent, I feel we should definitely stand up for our kids. But, if its a situation where you know your kid is in the wrong, you will have to change the approach a bit. Scolding or shouting at your kid in front of others can cause severe embarrassment and trigger negative reactions, as well as lead to low self-esteem. Instead, you can tell your kid that the particular behaviour was wrong and guide on how to do the same thing differently, in a right way.

stand up for your kid esp when others feel it's their sole right to shout, scare, or even beat your child. no one is allowed to talk rudely with your kid. don't embarrass your child in front of others. if your child has done wrong, then u apologize on his behalf and leave from there. only in ur home when no one is there, can u calmly and firmly talk to ur child and reason with him/ her.

You must always stand up for your child but when you know that your kid is at fault you will need to take a diplomatic approach. When you are home then you can reprimand your child and tell him his/behaviour was not right. If you ridicule your child in front of others it will embarrass him/her and lower her morale.

No..that's not correct at all as it gives wrong signals to the child. He thinks he can get away with everything since his parents will always defend him even if he is wrong. Talk to the child at home. Explain to him that what he did was not good and shouldn't repeat it.
