Need advice. My mum was in icu and now in normal ward. She has serious bout of the flu. Coughing, vomitting and high fever which has not broken for 1 day. I am a breastfeeding Mom of a newborn. Should I be visiting her? And if yes, how Long? I don't want to catch what she has and pass it to my baby.
I would suggest not to. Aside from your mother's illness, we're pretty sure that there are other patients in the hospital. I'm just afraid that you might acquire and transfer any virus to your newborn baby when you get home. We all know that newborn babies are very vulnerable. When my baby was less than a month old, I actually posted a memo on our door stating: "If the visitor has been sick previously, please avoid entering the house. If the visitor is well, please have your hands sanitized before entering the house." We all know that prevention is always better than cure.
Read moreI understand your worries on your mother's condition however it is not worth the risk to visit your mother until her condition is under controlled. Newborn's immune system is still very weak. You can ask other family member to update your mother's condition. Hope your mother gets well soon.
Hi, Is your mom still in serious condition? Maybe give your mom a call since she is in normal ward. If it is for me, I will visit my mom as she needed my support and love too. Put the child at home. Then, before you touch your baby, you gotta bath and sanitise first.
Read moreI have ever asked my PD this before and his advice was Don't visit. Not worth the risk. Babies under 3 months are extremely vulnerable. If you must go, leave baby home. Make sure you shower when Yiu get home and sanitize your hands properly
