Children go through various stages of language development and really starts from infancy. So for instance, if your baby is around 3 months, he may respond to familiar voices and will listen closely to anything that he is not familiar with. To express delight at seeing his parents or anyone familiar, they usually smile or make a resounding noise. If your child is between the ages of 4 and 6 months, they respond to small words like 'yes' or 'no.' They may even catch up on consonants. If your child is between the ages of 7 and 12 months, they are already familiar with their name and will look at anyone who calls them. As they grow, they catch up on their mother tongue, and are able to talk fluently in it by the ages of 2.5 and 3. Now, as far as the third language is concerned, you can start tis process as soon as your child hits the '4 year' mark. This is the time when you can easily make your child learn a new language (apart from the mother tongue). The best time to pick up a second (or even third or fourth) language for a child is before the ages of five to six years old. It is regarded as a "peak period" where their language acquisition skills are at their best. They can easier pick up the different phonetic pronunciations (believed to be at their sharpest before 3 years old). It is important to have someone to speak to your child in the third language so that he/she can practice and pick up the language. Also, have different people to consistently speak one language to him/her to minimize confusion. It will be good to start early so that he/she will be exposed to the different languages even if he/she has yet to start talking. Babies can learn through listening and would pick up patterns along the way. Right now. Start early. Kids learn way much faster than adults. And you should take advantage of it. If you will, you can teach him the 4th language as well. Only note that: it helps a lot to be fluent in those languages if the child gets to speak and hear them around often. It'll fasten and strengthen the learning process

Start as early as possible! Take advantage of the fact that your child is still young and while you are spending a lot of time with him till he gets older. Start simple and make it enjoyable so that your child would gain interest for the new language.
