I tried giving ginataang mashed kalabasa with malunggay to my toddler and I was scared when I witnessed she almost got choked. Maybe because of the malunggay? Should I just powderized the malunggay or tear it in small pieces before cooking? Better ideas?

You might want to cut it in really small pieces using a kitchen scissor. Make it as tiny as possible. Or if you want, you can puree a portion of the kalabasa together with the malunggay. Thereafter, mix the mashed kalabasa and pureed kalabasa + malunggay. The purpose of this is to still give your kid thick foods that can aid in speech development. Chewing is a precursor to talking so the more a food has texture, the better. Just make sure you give your child what he/she can eat properly.

Sometimes they choke and are easily often to recover -- I suppose this is part of the learning process to handle solid food? As long as it's in a safe size (yes, chop it up into small pieces), I think it's okay to keep letting your child "practice" eating and swallowing. You might be doing her a disservice by serving it powderized.

Malunggay leaves can get stuck in children's throats, especially when they clump together. Maybe hold off on feeding her such food until she's old enough.

Thanks for the ideas! :)
