Sadly, you can get HFMD more than once, as HFMD is caused by several different viruses, including coxsackieviruses A5, A9, A10, A16, B1, B3, enterovirus 71, foot-and-mouth disease virus, and herpes simplex. The vast majority of cases, however, are caused by coxsackievirus A16. http://www.drgreene.com/qa-articles/catch-handfootandmouth-disease/ A child with a healthy immune system will form antibodies to whichever virus caused the infection. If your son is re-exposed to the same virus, he will probably not be re-infected. He is still susceptible, in varying degrees, to the other viruses. These highly contagious infections can spread through secretions such as saliva and feces. Do practice highest hygiene levels when your child is outside, e.g. clean hands with soaps, never put hands into mouth, avoid crowded places and etc.
Agree with Diana. Unlike chicken pox, HFMD is a contagious virus which can be caught multiple times. Thus, and younger children are much prone to getting them easily as compared to adult. Practice safe hygiene habits with your child everywhere you go, and if *touch wood* your child is sick, please also practise social responsibility and not bring your child to the childcare, playgrounds or anywhere that has children.

Plenty of times. It's not like chicken pox where it happens once and you are safe from it. The best way is to try your best to be as hygienic as possible and to build up your child's immunity.
Yes, they are correct. A person can get infected by HFMD more than once. The son of my batchmate got confined twice within the same year because of HFMD.
you can get it mutiple times. As there are many strains of virus just for hfmd.
