Hi should I pay my children to help at home so they learn the value of money and also as a form of motivation?

I don't believe in paying children for help. It's their home, so they are supposed to play their part in keeping the house tidy. Taking responsibility of their own belongings should not be incentive-based, otherwise they might begin to demand for more next time. Imagine your child telling you he won't make his bed because it's just not worth it for 50 cents. Are you going to increase it to a dollar the next time round? Try out another way of motivating your child. While at it, do take note to stick to age-appropriate chores for your child. http://sg.theasianparent.com/how-to-motivate-children/

This definitely is a good idea but take care that you don't over do it. My mom used to pay me if I did extra ordinary home tasks like once I fixed the tap which was leaking. My dad also paid me for washing his car every week. But imagine if they paid me for everything ? Even throwing trash or even cleaning the plates once in a while ?

I pay my kids for tiny extra chores. Like helping me prepare dinner etc. But I don't pay them for everyday things like cleaning up their toys and washing their plate after eating.

thanks
