Do you allow your kids to get better in sports with the aim of him or her becoming a scholar at college?

My husband was a semi-pro and national athlete during his heyday so I'll be open if my daughter wants to concentrate on sports even if she doesn't get a scholarship. I'm pretty sure that it will mold her as a good person.
