Why do wives have to ask permission from her husband to go out with friends but the husband only informs her that he is going out with friends?

This is our conditioning. We have grown up seeing our mothers doing it, and mothers teaching their daughters to do the same. And if wives or daughter in-laws do the same was their husbands....just inform...then they are considered to be mannerless, devoid of sanskaars/values. But times are changing, men's thought process is changing. Like, if I have to go on a holiday, i inform my husband and he listens and if there's nothing as a unit that I should be a part of, I go. And same is with him. We have equality at home, at least.
