When can my baby sleep without a hat or without being swaddled?
Swaddling your newborn, or wrapping her snugly in a blanket, can help her feel safe and secure in the early weeks and months after birth. But most babies quickly outgrow the need for it – usually around the time they start trying to roll over. That developmental milestone is a good guideline for determining when to stop swaddling your baby. And if your baby is uncomfortable being swaddled and starts to squirm around, she could roll over on her tummy and have trouble breathing. No one knows exactly why babies who sleep on their tummy have a higher rate ofSIDS, but that's why doctors recommend that all babies sleep on their back.

Swaddling is generally effective only for the first 8 weeks after which your baby would tend to want to free up their arms and legs.
Without a hat should be fine after they get home. 4-6 weeks without being swaddled its fine !
