In general, language skills start developing between the ages of one and two. Any form of communications, such as babbling, pointing to an object, responding to your comments, indicates that he/she is beginning to understand what is said to him/her (even though he/she is not using actual words to communicate with you). Typically, you may get to hear your baby speaking her first word at the end of her first year. Still, every baby develops differently. My nephew only started talking at around 15 months. It was clear that he could understand us and was blabbering in his own baby language, but he just refused to “converse” with us. Now, at almost four years of age, we can’t get him to stop talking. ;p

while it generally depends in different babies and is never really the same, the approximate age around which your baby may say the first word is between 6 and 8 months. the initial actions, such as making those baby sounds, babbling, gurgling, pointing at objects are all signs that your baby is getting ready to speak. so get ready to be surprised :)

I do not precisely remember but I think my baby started saying, mamma, papa around 7th month. Though she used to blabber a lot, that baby blabber. :) But I guess, around 6th, 7th or 8th month, the baby would start saying a little more clearly, especially the common words that you say in front of her.

My son's first words was "Mama" at about 6.5 months. Such a proud moment... although now he keeps calling me when I am attending to other matters e.g. dishes
