Similar issue with my baby. Lactation consultant told me that my milk flow is too slow and baby isn’t patience enough to do the hard work (suck strongly to get milk). During the first week we were feeding her with syringe + finger as dummy and avoid bottle feeding when baby is too cranky for latching. Lactation consultant and PD told us that this would train baby’s muscle to suck properly on the nipple. How you do it is by putting a drop of milk to your pinky finger, get baby to suck your pinky finger up to the finger’s first joint , insert your syringe in to drop more milk to the pinky finger while keep moving your finger forward and backward to train her to suck. To train her back to latch, we give 1/3 or 1/2 of her feeding portion using syringe method to calm her. After she’s calm enough, we start to let her latch. Another tip if milk flow is slow like mine, it is advised not to move your baby to other breast when she’s still latching. Reason is once baby began to suck on a breast, the milk flow is gradually becoming faster and baby used up a lot of energy to build up the flow, when baby is moved to the other breast, baby will need to repeat the hard work and if baby can’t get the milk with same or better flow compare to the previous breast it will tend to get cranky. On the next feeding time, you can get her to latch on the other breast.
it is easier and faster to pump actually which i did for 10 mths for my 1st boy. now 2nd boy, mostly is pump which I can also feed my elder boy with the extra... unless he's impatient to wait for the warming of milk, then i latch on a while only. I personally don't like to latch on. pump out and everyone at home can help to feed, rather than u alone. long run, u will be super tired just on breastfeeding... u need to rest well to have lots of milk.
try to call up and enquire cost of lactation consultant. they can help u better
Is your milk flow too fast? If yes, then pump out a bit and let LO try.
have you ever thought of engaging a LC to help you?
Stay strong ❤️😇
