Is tummy time a must? My 4 week old hates it.

Tummy time is beneficial to your baby in helping to develop strong head, neck and shoulder muscles, which will help him/her accomplish developmental milestones like sitting and crawling. It can also help prevent the back of your baby’s head from becoming flat and a chance to experience a different position. Like was Roshini mentioned, it is unlikely that any baby will enjoy it because it is hard work for him/her to keep his/her head up. However, given the benefits, even if it is just one to two minutes of a day, having tummy time is recommended. Some safety issues to take note of: - make sure your baby is on a low, solid surface (reduces the risk of rolling off of a couch or bed) - do not leave your baby unattended - switch your baby back to his/her back once your baby gets drowsy Here’s a useful link with tips on how to make tummy time more comfortable for your baby: http://www.babycenter.com/0_tummy-time-how-to-help-your-baby-get-comfortable-on-his-bell_1439985.bc

1-2 min is good for newborns starting at week 1. It's only a few moments that bub needs to do tummy time. It is important to stop plagiocephaly. You can do tummy time on you (at various degrees of incline) and elevate baby's chest (over a nursing pillow for example) to help acclimate them to being in a prone position. Much more pleasant for bub. Btw I have never heard of a baby who loves tummytime. :) You can find out more about tummy time here http://sg.theasianparent.com/tummy-time-for-baby-basics/
