How can I teach my kids to be responsible?

there are various activities you can start at home depending on your kids' age that will help them become more responsible. for instance, i have asked my 9 year old to keep her bag ready for school the previous night, as well as get her clothes and shoes ready. also, she is supposed to make sure that all her story books and arts supply are in place after she has finished using them for the day. if at night i see they are not in place, i confiscate them for a day or two, which she tries to avoid at all costs. for my younger one, i have asked her to water the plant a certain amount and when she does it, she gets a star. also, finishing her food on her own, drinking a said amount of water each day and such small yet important tasks also get her stars that she loves :)

your kids will learn more from your actions than you realize, so be sure to follow those rules of responsibilities yourself. here are some things i follow with my kids 1. manage your school books and get your school bag, books, uniform and shoes ready the previous night 2. watering the plants and not letting them wilt 3. cleaning up their room and making sure their toys and things are in place 4. put their used dishes in the sink 5. take off shoes on entering the house and keeping it properly in the shoe cupboard i have a toddler and an older child, and both do these things from a very early age, so it is more of a habit for them and not just a chore

As if with other good habits that you hope to inculcate in children, it's always good to start young. If you have not exposed your child to responsible behavior since he was young, it is a bit unfair to suddenly expect him or her to know how to save money, clean his or her room, prepare his or her own meals when you are not at home when he or she is a teenager. Lead by example and emulation. When it's time to do housework, invite your young child to help, even if it will take longer. Not only will this teach responsibility, it will also instill the idea of teamwork. To be responsible is not only to look out for oneself, it is also to look out for others :)

Kids follow a simple rule of "monkey see monkey do". You want them to learn responsibility but u can't just tell them to be so. You need to make them learn how amd then make it a bit fun for them. I assign a couple of tasks to each of them amd tell them that they will have to fulfill them regularly.at the end of each day i take a check to see if it is done and give them a smiley for each completed task.if task is not done then they get a frownie. We count the number of smileys and frownies at the end of the month. Then a small teeat/reward is given to them. This keeps them happy and motivated to do better Try it out...am sure it will help.
