How can I teach my kids about saving money?
Start young. Talk to them about money, about saving and help them by setting goals with them (saving up to buy something that they want). Get them a piggy bank and bring them to the bank to open a bank account. I remember when I was young, I was always very excited to be able to go to the bank to deposit my savings. Talk to them about work and earning money. My mother was very open with how "money doesn't grow on trees". She painted a realistic view of work (e.g., highlighting the times she and my father had to work overtime, or take on extra work) and that really demonstrated to me how tough it was for them to earn money. At the end of the day, parents will always be the role model. Be open to your child about household expenses and how you plan and save. Ensure that they have the correct concept, such as it is important to spend on necessary stuff (like during recess time and not starve just to save the money to buy a toy they wanted). Just sharing what I've gathered from my own experiences. :)
Read moremy friend gives pocket money to her 9 year old. it is a weekly amount that she gives each Sunday. by the end of the month, the girl has some amount with her. my friend has told her daughter that when she has so and so amount of money, she can tell the mother and she will get her something that she wants or needs. of course she gets to spend some of the money herself, but if she wants to buy something special or big, she has learnt that she has to control any impulse or useless buying and save up for that big thing. i think you too can start your child off like that

Read moreI gave a wallet to my child and he will put all his "hard-earned" money in it... allowance that he get from doing the chores... he will bring with him whenever we are out... he knows how much he has and really like to see it gets more and more in the wallet... he don't spend at all in each shopping trip... i hope he gets the idea of not spending the money even he can just open the wallet and take out the money anytime he wants... occasionally he will treat us drinks lol... :)
