For young babies, flip and flap books are more engaging, you can find this type of books in national library under baby books section. When baby is young the main purposes of reading to them are create bonding between parent and kid and nurture reading interests since young. Whether they can recognise words and read or not is not important before age of 5-6 years old. If you want to train your baby to read and recognise words, there is a book called How to Teach Your Baby to Read by Glenn Doman, where flash cards method is used. However, using flash cards to learn how to read got its problem too as the kid might develop dylexia and can't read new words through sound blendings. Once your child is 4 years old, you can start to teach Phonics to guide her/him to read phoenetically.

I've observed that interactive books work for toddlers e.g. those with flip panels and stuff they can touch or press. This book teaches the little ones about parts of the body (eyes nose ears) and has interactive bits that will keep them interested. It retails for 7USD on Amazon but these kinds of books are easily available at stores like Kinokuniya :)

You can try with the books shown in the below link or some books similar to these. Babies are usually more attentive to pictures. https://sg.theasianparent.com/best-first-picture-books-baby/?utm_source=article-bottom&utm_medium=copy&utm_campaign=article-share

You can check out goodreads. They have an app to! :) Pretty good good selection of children’s books you can check out and they also recommend you books based on your activity / references :)

Colourful interactive books get their attention. Check out the books here http://redtri.com/bump-baby/interactive-touch-and-feel-books-for-babies/
