Can breast milk and formula be mixed?

In general, having a combination of both breastfeeding and formula will not cause any direct harm to the baby. As long as you are breastfeeding, the baby will be able to get the antibodies produced by the mother’s body to help protect them against infections. That being said, if you baby is below six months of age, consuming anything other than breast milk may expose his/her immature immune system and gastrointestinal tract to inflammation and disease. Also, there is a chance that your supply may be affected because the production of breast milk is related to the frequency and amount of breastfeed (especially if your baby is a newborn). Here’s an article that touches on mix/combination feeding: http://www.wewomen.com/baby-first-year/everything-you-need-to-know-about-combination-or-mix-feeding-your-baby-s429192.html

Technically you can :) http://www.theindusparent.com/happy-leave-daughter-daycare-every-day I've done it lots of times for two reasons: 1. To top-up what I was producing (my baby's demand suddenly increased and it took a while for my supply to catch up) 2. When I was introducing formula to my baby and she didn't like the taste of it. (I mixed 1 part formula to 3 parts breast milk then 2:2, then 3:1, until she got used to the taste.) It's true though that the big reason not to is that breast milk goes to waste in case baby doesn't like the formula you mixed with it. It's always painful to throw out "liquid gold"

you can, even though it is not really recommended, unless you have very low breast milk supply. be assured that it will not cause any harm to your baby. it is strongly recommended that you feed your baby only breastmilk till the age of 6 months, post which you can start introducing formula. here are 2 articles you can find useful: https://www.nct.org.uk/parenting/mixed-feeding-combining-breast-and-bottle-feeding https://www.foodsafety.gov/keep/types/babyfood/

That's like driving F1 car on roads, or a polo on a circuit. Its not scary, but it isn't recommended. try not to dilute the natural healthy milk with something that's like water up against. But if it's because of low breastmilk supply, I'd suggest take doc's suggestion on how you can improve. Or you can read online some causes http://www.todaysparent.com/baby/baby-health/10-reasons-for-low-milk-supply-when-breastfeeding/

If you're talking about mixed feeding, then yes - you can do so! Offer breast milk first and then top up with formula if it's not enough. However, you should NOT be mixing them in the same bottle - meaning, you should not be adding formula powder into breast milk, or mixing formula milk (ie. formula dissolved in water) with breast milk in the same bottle!

yes you can, but please do this only after your baby completes 6 months of exclusive breastfeeding. unless the milk supply is low, do not dilute breast milk with anything. on the other hand, once your baby completes 6 months of exclusive breastfeed, you can still continue giving the nutrition by adding breastmilk to formula.

You can mix but give the breastmilk first. Not enough than you supplement with formula milk. i wont recommend mixing them in the same bottle cause if your baby cannot finish, than waste your breastmilk. Babies who have both BM/FM get the best of both worlds :) Happy mummy happy kids

As much as possible, i wouldn't want to mix both. Its like mixing 2 brands of milk. But i doubt it will cause any harm. Just my thoughts, not much knowledge on this.

Oo naman pero mas maganda kung breastmilk ngayon then mamaya formula naman salitan sila kesa yung ipag mixed mo sa isang bote yung breastmilk at formula.

Mixed feeding, yes. Meaning 1 feed breast milk, another feed formula. But you can’t mix it in the same bottle to feed.
