Anyone's toddlers still wake up for feed in the middle of the night?? Why is this happening? Shouldn't they be starting to sleep better? -frustrated mum-

While some toddlers are able to sleep through the night from a young age, others are just light sleepers or just more aware of their surroundings even when they're asleep - this is usually seen when your child wakes up easily when you're not around them, if the slightest of sounds wakes them up, they get scared/alarmed by small actions/sounds etc. Some children (like mine) just sleep better with their parents, so co-sleeping may help - and yes, actually staying in bed the whole night next to them and not sneaking off to get work done (that's what used to do ooops). Having said that, it is absolutely normal for your child (no matter what age) to be waking up at night - even we as adults do it too, with no reason at all. Most days we can sleep well, while there may be a few "weird days" where we just have to wake up to pee, drink water, eat something or just to toss and turn! I can't vouch whether toddlers have dreams or nightmares, but sometimes they are able to recall what happens in the day - or when they get a little older, that's when imagination literally runs wild. Whatever the reason, I'd say to just embrace it - it may sound silly, but someday you'd look back and think "this child used to wake up every night for milk, and now he/she is sleeping so well even without me being next to him/her." The nights are long, but the years are short - the good, the bad, the happy, the sad, the frustrating and the heartwarming - just take in all in the moment and enjoy (or at least embrace) it :)

Every child is different I guess. My elder boy only stopped his night feeds totally after he turned 4yo. My younger daughter STTN in her second month. No effort put in from us and she just slept through whereas for my son, we tried all methods like giving him water or let him fuss till he's tired but nothing works. Then one fine day after a case of hfmd, he didn't ask for milk at night anymore.

Oh yes, the surprise waking can be well.. a real surprise! Mine usually sleeps without asking for milk, but on some odd days, she asks for milk or water dreamily... maybe she's really hungry.......

Same here with Ms. Tin, he just have his milk for a very short time then sleep again. My son is 32 months old. I believe that is their sleeping comfort.

My toddler doesn't really wake up but she would just reach for my boobie and latch while eyes closed. She does that several times the whole night.

mine does! she suddenly woke at 4am to ask for milk one day. fortunately it's one-off!

Mine does, he is 3 years old and still wakes me up for milk. :(

thanks
