Well, it should be quite safe as many travel without much issues. Although miscarriages do happen usually in the 1st trimester but flying doesn't increase your chance of miscarriage. Let your medical caregiver know you'll be traveling. If you're experiencing early symptoms of what you suspect may be a loss, you might consider postponing your travel if it is possible. Dealing with a loss away from home can be more difficult physically and emotionally. Do note that at least 75% women go on to deliver their babies at term. You may want to choose a seat where you will be the most comfortable, likely an aisle seat so you can access the restroom easily if you need to. I also recommend getting up a little more than normal to walk around and stretch your legs. As mentioned you also really need to carry your own snacks and be sure to stay hydrated!
It should be safe for you to travel during your first trimester. There may be discomfort from your pregnancy symptoms (i.e., morning sickness, lethargy). Still, it is best to consult your gynecologist for things to look out for during the flight. You can refer to this article for some tips to make your flight more comfortable: http://www.parents.com/advice/pregnancy-birth/my-pregnant-body/is-it-safe-to-travel-during-my-first-trimester/ Quite a number of my friends traveled within their first trimester and did not had any major discomfort. Their advice is to listen to your body. Get more rest if needed, stay relaxed and enjoy the trip. :)
Wow Diana you travelled so many times. Haha. I travelled once to Thailand. I had very bad nausea so I had to pack a lot of sour plums and candies on the flight there. The moment we touched down, I bought bottles of drinking water for the land transfer interval. I did not take any raw food or fruits (not even from restaurants), drinks had to come from cans or bottles and supposed to abstain from ice but the weather was too hot! Just be careful if you feel anything weird about your body. Especially if you feel tired, just take a short break before proceeding. And make sure to always have water with you to keep yourself hydrated.
I did! I travelled to Korea in winter when I was 6 weeks pregnant. I didn't take any special precaution but brought along my folic acid and vitamins. Pregnant women in their first trimester are advised against travelling because of the possibility of miscarriage occurring (higher possibility in the first trimester). The best time to travel is actually during the second trimester when the morning sickness for most women has eased and the foetus is more or less firmly attached to the uterus wall. However, if your gynae gives the go-ahead, why not? http://pregnant.sg/articles/travelling-when-pregnant-faq/
I travelled when I was 2 mths preg with my number 2. I even carried my 19 mths firstborn throughout the trip as she was super clingy towards me. Having said that, I am glad to spend that time with her before my second child came along. Most importantly, you know your health best. Travel only when you feel comfortable and your hub is supportive.
Yes I travelled 3 times during first trimester when pregnant with no.3. I just reduce walking and try to rest more if feel tired. Also, try to avoid any streetfood and take only mineral/distilled water. I also searched for gynae clinic nearby my hotels and nearby hospitals to prepare for any emergency. Do bring your folic acid together.
