At 8 months they are starting to want to crawl and explore on their own. You can put some of his fav toys on a playmat and encourage him to crawl forward. Cause and effect toys are good too. Anything with music and nursery rhymes are good for their development and encourage them to crawl because the music part develops left Brain while the lyrics part develop their right brain. Peekaboo will be all time favourite for a long time. Bring him out for a lot of strolls and point to him the things in the environment and tell him the names. You can also stack wooden blocks and push them over. He will love the surprise of seeing the blocks topple and may even try to do it

Each child is different so it may not be the case with other parents. But at 8 months, my baby is able to cruise and climb. She likes to grab everything and put in her mouth- paper, hair, keys. She likes to play with her toys and chase her big brother around the house. We stimulate her by making her follow us in doing action songs and playing with her shape and coloured toys in front of her. But of course, every child is different.

You can play with rattlers, soft toys or give the baby any utensil from the kitchen. Say, give him a spoon and a bowl and let him drum on it. The sound it will make, will keep him engaged. You can sing rhymes to him and play music and dance in front of him. Music has magic, and it can keep your baby engaged and happy for hours.
