Hey, Perhaps, she suddenly becomes very sleepy and that is her sign of showing it. But, I think you should see her paediatrician as well and rule out the chances of having dry eyes. It is nothing to worry about. There is actually a tear film to protect the eye which sometimes evaporates when exposed to air for long time. This dryness irritates the baby and she rubs eyes as rubbing stimulates tears, which in turn brings the moisture back in the eyes. I mean, this may be the reason, you need to consult your doctor, else, babies have the habit their eyes in general. You can make the baby wear mittens so that she is not able to rub eyes as vigorously as she does. Or distract her by handing her a toy or you can hold her hands to move them backward forward.

At this age your baby will do these things by instinct, so it is very difficult to stop her from doing so. You will have to be extra alert and keep removing her hands each time she tries to rub her eyes. Just as Chetna mentioned, I used to hold my babies very close to me and make them sleep on my arm. I would hold on to their arms in such a way that they were always in my embrace, so their hand was not free and they could not rub their eyes. Also, make your daughter wear mittens and change them frequently. And yes, do trim the nails every week to avoid any scratching.

She is too small, so you can correct this habit of hers. I think you can hold her hand in yours and with other pat her to sleep. You can also have the baby lie on your shoulder and pat her to sleep. This way, the baby's hands be against your body or around the shoulders, so she would not be able to rub the eyes. You can also rock the baby to sleep in the cot and can hand over a rattler or a toy in her hand. This will keep her distracted and she would not rub her eyes. Try these things, I am sure, one of them will work. :)

Thanks for replying! 😊

most babies end up rubbing their eyes and ears vigorously, which leaves the area red, and often results in rashes too. babies have very sensitive skin so it happens even faster. i think the best way to prevent this is to put your baby to sleep before she reaches this level of sleepiness. also, each time your baby does this, try gently removing the hand. if nothing helps, do consult with her doctor too.

Why is she awake till she has to rub her eyes. Maybe the environment around her keeps her alert to the point of exhaustion. Kids this age are very regular in their eating and sleep habits. So 10 mints before her sleep time close lights or dim them, feed her, burp her, change her diapers and put soothing music. Keep ur hand on her and let her sleep
