what is the one thing that your mother taught you that you want to teach your child as well?

To be independent. Me and two brothers were "latch key kids" because after our grandmother passed away, no one could take care of us and both our parents worked long hours. Back in the day, domestic helpers were not common yet so we pretty much took care of ourselves growing up. I hope I will not be in such a dire situation where I have to leave my kids alone but I will definitely teach them how to be independent and self sufficient.
