Have you heard of the Stop, Pause and Play exercise? I read about it not too long ago and in essence, it makes a lot of sense. The exercise has 3 parts: 1) STOP: whatever you are doing and make make sure your feet are firmly on the ground. 2) PAUSE and focus on your breathe in slowly, right down into your belly, then exhale completely. Take 5 more slow breaths, being aware of each breath in and each breath out. Breathing helps calm your body and mind down -- helps keep everything in perspective. 3) PLAY: Respond to your child the way you want to. When you are in this calm state, you will probably be better able to respond in a a better way to your child, instead of losing your temper.
