What is the best way to feed a 6mo? Some of my friends are suggesting that I shouldn't hand feed my baby and only use a spoon instead!

I guess your friends are suggesting feeding the baby with a spoon because it is easy to feed with a spoon. Baby's mouth is small and a little spoon makes its way easily than your hand will. You will make little morsels but your hand will still make a big feeding thing. Also, if you will feed with a spoon there will be less mess. Plus, when the baby will grow up, he will be comfortable eating with the spoons...will be easier to teach table manners. Though I myself eat with hands but when my kid was this tiny I found feeding him with a spoon more convenient.
