Every kid takes his own time to reach his developmental milestones, so we should not start worrying comparing our kid to others. Some kids start talking fluently by 2 while others take time and do that only by the age of 4 or so. I think, you should talk slowly to him, so that the words are clearly audible to him and encourage him to repeat words. With practice and time he will catch up. For few more months see how he develops and accordingly decide on whether you need to check with the doctor or not.

while a lot of kids start speaking fluently by this age, there are again a similar number of kids who don't. different kids reach various developmental milestones at different times in their formative years. i think you should try to keep talking to your son and encourage him to speak more. if it does not improve in the next few months, by the time he is already in kindergarten, you should consult a PD and a speech therapist.

Do u generally speak in more than 1 language? If its so then ur baby is confused between those languages......try to speak in 1 language in front of him.......another thing is ur child comfortable wid sign languages? Pls do not respond to his sign languages........if u r answering all his sign language then he will start talking lately

Every child develops at a different pace. Many children speak pretty fluently by 2 and a half years and some don't. Even my son could not communicate fluently till about 4 years of age. Do not panic at the moment. Converse more with him and encourage him to give you answers. Slowly he will pick up the pace.

Some kids are late talkers, my own brother was. So, don't worry. But still if you are worried you can consult a speech therapist.
