What essential needs to prepare for newborn
new mummy here 28 weeks preggo, what are the essentials needed to prp for newborn ? And for clothing should buy x2 bigger ?
Some essential items I can think off my head are baby cot, clothes, diapers, bath essentials (tub if not provided by hospital), milk bottles, breast pumps, postpartum essentials for mummy, a car seat (if you have car), stroller (not essential but most ppl like to have one), baby carrier. Stuff that you need to bring for baby upon discharge from hospital are, 1x swaddle, 1x baby romper, 2x mittens, 2x booties. They always say baby will outgrow clothes very fast so they always suggest to buy bigger clothes. But many of my mummy friends told me to prepare at least one set (I prepared 5pcs) of newborn clothes because they said their babies were ‘drowning’ in oversized clothes and it is quite uncomfortable for baby. But this is entirely up to you. Personally I prefer to let baby wear something that is more fitting to his size. My suggestion is to hold off the newborn clothes until you baby’s size is confirmed around week 35 or 36 then you know if baby is on the larger side or more average side. If baby is larger than average then no issue you can prepare clothes that are bigger.

Can get handmedowns, don’t need to spam buy. Buy as they grow.

Buy romper for day time wear, drawstrings mittens and booties (adjustable purpose, my baby has small wrists and ankles so normal elastic ones didn’t work very well on her), sleepingsuits with built in mittens and booties, diapers, nappy cream, 2in1 hair and body wash, bathing tub, milk bottles and pacifier, bottle detergent, thermometer, underpads (very useful during diaper change), cotton balls, towels, bibs, baby laundry detergent, baby sleeping cot/yaolan/floor bed/lounger/bouncer, baby carrier/stroller/car seat. Personally, I find that 5 pieces of daywear romper and sleepingsuits are sufficient.
