Gynae appointment after giving birth

Hello mummies, Is it compulsory to go back to your gynae after giving birth? I went back a week after then my gynae ask me to go back in another month. Was wondering is that necessary? She mentioned something about Pap smear though.

Wouldn't say its compulsory but rather its advisable to go back for another visit! Gynae will check on a few things: breastfeeding (if you have any issues), check on delivery wounds if any, emotional wellbeing (in case of post natal depression), do a Pap Smear (to detect any abnormal cell changes in the cervix after delivery - thereafter we are advised to do annual pap smear), to discuss contraception and birth control etc Mine is private so I had a pretty detailed session with my gynae which was great for me!
