Me and my husband moved to Singapore last year, we both are English. I have a 4 year old kid, he has Mandarin as language subject in school. Now I know Mandarin is one of the most spoken languages in Singapore, but is it necessary for him to learn Mandarin? I mean is it really worth it?

Well it depend on individual. My students are English and they are learning chinese in Singapore and Hong Kong. even they moved back to their country , they still learn chinese in Country like Australia, England and New zealand via skype or even hire chinese tutor to their house. International school do provide chinese. And I believe it also depends on individual whether they need it or don't. As now more and more English are learning how to speak in chinese and definitely no harm learning as it might be useful if he or she grow up and get send to a chinese country where they don't understand English well
