Of late my 14-year-old son has been falling ill every month with viral or cold and cough. He never had immunity issues as a child and didn't fall ill frequently. Why is that suddenly as a teenager he is falling ill more often? I am worried.

Viral issues are often due to the kind of association he has...if he travels in bus or train, or school has poor hygiene standard or his classmates/friends are carriers. 14 yr olds are also very conscious about their image. They like to stay lean and slim. This results in poor eating habits or skipping meals. Tht brings down immunity. So u may need to ensure his eating habits. Don't force him to eat too much. But break up meals in small quantities which are good meals...not junk. Ensure that he follows basic hygiene like taking bath when he comes home from outside or school and only then he eats. Of he sweats a lot then the moment he comes home make him wipe out his sweat from his head, temples, back of the neck and forehead. It shouldn't dry on skin. Tht also creates frequency in illness.....

at this age he will be going through a lot of hormonal changes as well as other physical changes. in addition, he will also be mixing more with other teens his age, and get more active, hence the exposure to outward things. make sure he has his meals on time and that he gets a good dose of healthy and filling foods. in case nothing is helping, do schedule a visit to the doc.
