Babies are born with some extra fluid, so it is perfectly normal for a newborn to drop a few ounces when that fluid is lost in the first few days of life. A healthynewborn is expected to lose 7% to 10% of the birth weight, but should regain thatweight within the first 2 weeks or so after birth.

It's not the figure that matters but the percentage. 5% loss is normal for formula fed babies while 7-10% is normal for breastfed babies. They will gain back the weight in the next 10-14 days. http://americanpregnancy.org/first-year-of-life/newborn-weight-gain/
