I am going to labour in the early November, should I buy one tin of FM just in case I have not enough BM? What if I am having fever during BFing, can I BF my LO?

It depends on how earnest you are about breastfeeding. If you really really want to provide your child with breastmilk, I'd advise holding off on buying a tin. Firstly, one small tin is really expensive! Secondly, the possibility of giving up too early on breastfeeding is higher if you have a tin of formula milk around. Thirdly, other family members might give your baby the formula milk either out of convenience or because of their own beliefs, contrary to how strongly you feel about breastfeeding. I have seen mothers sharing about how this has happened to them even though they have told these other caregivers to feed breastmilk (expressed) if it is available. I myself bought a small tin when I had my firstborn and it cost more than $40, AND I didn't even use it, so it was a waste of money for me! That said, if you are ok with feeding formula and you eventually will give formula in future, then it's fine to keep a tin on hand, but the only thing is that it's sometimes tricky finding out what formula milk your baby will take to. I've heard that some babies have rejected formula milk (due to its taste), and mothers have to buy different brands and try different types until they find one their baby will like. If this is the case, you might like to get samples to try first. Check with your gynae (they sometimes have samples for expectant mothers) or paediatricians, or check online at the brand websites, etc. for giveaways.

And I would encourage you to latch directly instead of giving ebm as some antibodies will be lost as compared to direct latch. You may want consider wearing a mask when you are with the baby. Always ask the doctor for breastfeeding safe medications. You may want to wait till baby is born before deciding buying the FM. Reason being when you are in the hospital after you give birth, you can request the nurses to feed baby with FM if you are not producing enough breastmilk. The nurses will recommend you a suitable FM brand for baby. At this juncture, you wouldn't know which FM is suitable for baby. :) You can keep baby by your side and latch baby every 2-3hrs so your colostrum can faster kick in. When you are in the hospital, request for the lactation consultant to teach you how to properly latch.
Read moreYes you can. In fact, you should continue to breastfeed even when you are sick so that you can pass the antibodies to your baby through your breastmilk. Only very few serious disease like HIV would breastfeeding be required to stop. http://kellymom.com/bf/can-i-breastfeed/illness-surgery/mom-illness/ If you are taking any medication, you can refer to LACTMED website to see if the medication is compatible with breastfeeding. Most medication and antibiotics are suitable for breastfeeding (safe for your baby), the only reason why a medication is not recommended for breastfeeding, is usually because it may hinder breastmilk production like antihistamines medication (zrytec etc) https://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/newtoxnet/lactmed.htm 1 tin of fm should be more than enough as a spare. If you wish to breastfeed but encounter problems, consider visiting a lactation consultant for help first before giving up. Congrats on your baby and good luck on your breastfeeding journey.
Read moreyes! definitely! I was having high fever on the full month celebration and I continue to breast feed. it's good to breast feed your baby when you're sick. a lot of anti bodies. hehehe. and, before you're really sick, the germs and virus are alr attacking your body. so doesn't make any difference, right? hahaha. jiayou momma. don't be stressed, stress is a milk killer. standby a small tin is enough, if wana supplement fm, make sure to latch baby first thn supplement with fm. the more you latch, the more you have. (: like a shop, if there's no more product to sell, the shop keeper will stock more products. if lesser products are sold, shop keeper stock up lesser stuffs. (:
Read moreI would say yes, buy a tin, if have small version buy the small version, although usually will gradually have enough milk. U might want to bring the pump to the hospital to help you stimulate too in case u need it. I did buy and gave as I was having problem latching and baby wasn't drinking well so we gave fm a couple of times. It was important to me while I tide through latching issues. Common illness like cough flu kind ok to continue latching. Antibodies can pass through to baby and help lower the possibility of baby getting sick (but this is not a 100% sure work method). What seine mothers did is they wear mask while BF.
Read moreyou can BF your LO even though you are unwell :) your antibodies will be transferred to your LO via BF and that improves his immunity. Don't worry about the lack of BM. Four in five moms have sufficient BM for their children. BM supply takes about 4-6 weeks to build up. First few days Post partum, you will experience engorgement (that's all the goodness inside you). Make sure you get proper help from a Lactation consultant on latching and how you hold your baby before you are discharged.
Read morePlease continue to bf baby even when you are sick. Not an issue at all. The other moms have explained to you. For me. I did not purchase any milk, honestly ill see what the hospital is giving and try the same brand instead. With that being said, it all depends on our own preference :) otherwise stick with bf as much as you can. And if you cant, dont feel bad about it as well. :)
Read moreYes I would advise you to get a small tin to standby in case not enough breastmilk. But do note that some babies are allergic to cow's milk. Mine was and he had super watery poop... Until I switched to soy fm. Advised by pd was bm is the best option
