I am going to labour in the early November, should I buy one tin of FM just in case I have not enough BM? What if I am having fever during BFing, can I BF my LO?

It depends on how earnest you are about breastfeeding. If you really really want to provide your child with breastmilk, I'd advise holding off on buying a tin. Firstly, one small tin is really expensive! Secondly, the possibility of giving up too early on breastfeeding is higher if you have a tin of formula milk around. Thirdly, other family members might give your baby the formula milk either out of convenience or because of their own beliefs, contrary to how strongly you feel about breastfeeding. I have seen mothers sharing about how this has happened to them even though they have told these other caregivers to feed breastmilk (expressed) if it is available. I myself bought a small tin when I had my firstborn and it cost more than $40, AND I didn't even use it, so it was a waste of money for me! That said, if you are ok with feeding formula and you eventually will give formula in future, then it's fine to keep a tin on hand, but the only thing is that it's sometimes tricky finding out what formula milk your baby will take to. And I would encourage you to latch directly instead of giving ebm as some antibodies will be lost as compared to direct latch. You may want consider wearing a mask when you are with the baby. Reason being when you are in the hospital after you give birth, you can request the nurses to feed baby with FM if you are not producing enough breastmilk. I would say yes, buy a tin, if have small version buy the small version, although usually will gradually have enough milk. U might want to bring the pump to the hospital to help you stimulate too in case u need it. I did buy and gave as I was having problem latching and baby wasn't drinking well so we gave fm a couple of times. It was important to me while I tide through latching issues. Common illness like cough flu kind ok to continue latching. Antibodies can pass through to baby and help lower the possibility of baby getting sick (but this is not a 100% sure work method). What seine mothers did is they wear mask while BF.

you can BF your LO even though you are unwell :) your antibodies will be transferred to your LO via BF and that improves his immunity. Don't worry about the lack of BM. Four in five moms have sufficient BM for their children. BM supply takes about 4-6 weeks to build up. First few days Post partum, you will experience engorgement (that's all the goodness inside you). Make sure you get proper help from a Lactation consultant on latching and how you hold your baby before you are discharged.

Please continue to bf baby even when you are sick. Not an issue at all. The other moms have explained to you. For me. I did not purchase any milk, honestly ill see what the hospital is giving and try the same brand instead. With that being said, it all depends on our own preference :) otherwise stick with bf as much as you can. And if you cant, dont feel bad about it as well. :)

Yes I would advise you to get a small tin to standby in case not enough breastmilk. But do note that some babies are allergic to cow's milk. Mine was and he had super watery poop... Until I switched to soy fm. Advised by pd was bm is the best option
