How should I care for my baby's belly button?

I use cool boiled water to clean the area with a cotton wool and I also specifically kept the area as dry as I could. Sometimes debris gets in there and gets stuck so I soften it by first dripping some baby oil then gently using cotton wool I remove it. If it doesn't come off on first try I will repeat over a few days.
