How often should kids be given what they want, especially small kids between 5 and 8, because it's not easy to break their heart by saying, no!

Maybe if you made them "work" for the things they want, you don't always have to say no and it will instill good qualities like responsibility, hard work and they will learn that things don't come for free. You can make them do simple chores like help you out in the kitchen or help you clean up a little around the house. Giving away things for free at the whims and fancy of kids might end up spoiling them in the long run. Good luck :)

Keep in mind...saying NO is an important part of parenting. It's not about breaking their heart. Although they are so young start reasoning with them from that age itself so that in the future saying NO will not really disappoint them. If you think what they are asking for is not needed then say that you will think about it. Initially there maybe tantrums but expect that too.

Every unreasonable demand of the kid should not be met with else they will never to learn to accept No. They should be told the reason that why that particular thing is not given to them at that particular time.
