Babies catch 6-8 colds before their first birthday because they are susceptible to the common cold, in part because they're often around other other people who might not be as germ-free as they think they are. Moreover, because babies have yet to develop immunity to many common infections, they are prone to colds. Treatment for colds in babies involves easing their symptoms, such as getting them to rest, keeping them hydrated and keeping the air moist. Really young babies should be brought to a doctor at the first sign of the common cold because they're at greater risk getting croup and/or pneumonia.
